8 Games, 8 Wins ... A look at the Reds emphatic start to the season

As we go into the second international break of the season, Liverpool are sitting pretty at the top of the table with not a single point dropped. This has been a remarkable start for Liverpool and gives them a great base to go on and challenge for the title this season. Now when you see 8 wins out of 8 you assume that Liverpool have been at their very best, but if you looker closer we can see that Liverpool have had to claw and push their way to these 8 wins, every game has been a battle for them and every time they've found a way to come out on top. They certainly haven't been at their best, i don't think any fan can say the reds have been their usual silky, fluid best, however they've fought and gave 100% in every game to get them every point so far this season, which is very much so a title winning attribute. Now of course there is a long way to go yet, 30 games still to play, 90 points still up for grabs, but the Reds are in a great position to push for their first title since 1990 under Kenny Daglish.
If we first look at the results so far:
Norwich (H) 4-1 win
Southampton (A) 1-2 win
Arsenal (H) 3-1 win
Burnely (A) 0-3 win
Newcastle (H) 3-1 win
Chelsea (A) 1-2 win
Sheffield United (A) 0-1 win
Leicester (H) 2-1 win
Most notable win for me would be the Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge, a notoriously hard place to go but Liverpool managed to get the win, in what would be described as a game of two halves. Not the easiest of games and as we all know, no game in the premier league is an easy one, every team can be beaten, its one of the main reasons this league is so loved and prided upon.
The most recent of games is the one that has sparked the most debate of late with a last minute penalty being awarded to Liverpool and slotted home by "Mr reliable", James Milner. Its safe to say that this penalty caused a lot of debate amongst the footballing world and i would go as far to say it is debatable, but there was contact from Albrighton on Mane and i believe any other striker or attacking player would go down in the same manner as Mane to win his team a penalty and the game in this circumstance. The focus of the game rightly so was on this penalty but if you look at the game as a whole, you will see that Leicester were very lucky to still be in the game and that their goal ( being their first shot on target) was very much against the run of play and if Liverpool were more clinical, the game would of been killed off way before Leicester equalised. Just like many of the other games Liverpool have won this season this game was one hard earned.
One of the notable players of this season and usually unsung hero of late is Joel Matip, the Cameroonian national has had a brilliant start to the season and is one of the main reasons why they are in the position they are for me. Some people will talk about Van Dijk, but for me Matip has so far eclipsed the Dutchman with his performances this season and I'm sure Liverpool fans will want him back from injury as soon as possible. Another note worthy candidate for this season has to be Fabinho, the Brazilian has been a monster in Liverpools midfield, well establishing himself as one of the best Defensive midfielders in the league and the world. Fabinho took time in his first season to adapt to the speed of the Premier league, but since he's found his feet he has been integral to this Liverpool team and has to be one of the first names on the squad sheet for any game. His desire and willingness to do the dirty work has given a real edge and nastiness to Liverpool's midfield. Lastly, we have Adrian, signed on a free from West Ham to be number 2 to Alisson, but brought into action when the Brazilian got injured in the opening game of the season, the Spaniard has gone from strength to strength. If we disregard his mistake against Southampton that lead to a nervy end to the game, the Spaniard has made a real name for himself and become a bit of a cult hero amongst Liverpool fans, one of his most noteworthy saves coming in the Champions league loss to Napoli. However, many fans feared the worst when Alisson got injured, but Adrain has came in and steadied the ship, he might not of got as many clean sheets as he would of wanted, but without him stepping in, it's safe to say Liverpool would not be on 24 points after 8 games.
I could go on to name every single player for Liverpool who's played this season as they've all made contributions in their own way and have been crucial to these 8 wins out of 8 but that is why it is a team, and for me that says it all about this Liverpool team, they are a very tightly knit group who all have their backs and will give 100% for each other, a philosophy that Klopp has installed in them since day one. No one knows whats to come next for this Liverpool team, but they have certainly set themselves up very nicely to push on for that first title in 30 years.
